Im looking at this Asus F8VA. and it seems like a solid gaming laptop with the HD 3650 however I don't see many configurations like this. Many have a 8600gt or a 9500m or 9600m which video solution would be best?

max screen size is 15-15.5"...preferable price range...1000-1200+tx any other suggestions? this laptop "current"? Im just asking becaue of the processor and video solution.

I have been looking at well priced ($1000-$1500) gaming laptops for some time. i wish some one would post a answer to this question because i am unsure of mine. for what i have read on many many forums the HD 3650 is a good card.
9600m gs>HD 3650> 9500m> 8600gt i have also heard the 3650 is better power wise and cooling wise then the rest.

i think this is the best 14" laptop
but the ASUS M50VM-A1 will perform better in games

if you want something cheaper the Acer Extensa EX5420-5059 looks nice the vidoe card is good but ever one says different things about it. good note book for $800

i hope that helped i just got this information of forums so this is all not for sure
i personally am going to get this laptop i think because i am using it mainly for school and some gaming

For the price, thats a good notebook. But for the same price, you can get a larger HD + larger screen.
Video card is a little better.

To be honest you better not be looking for the capability to play a game like crysis on high... although i own an HP laptop with an 8400 M, 3 GB of Ram, and a Turion X2 TL-62 2.1 Ghz... im able to play crysis on low no problem..

This laptop is of better quality, ATI lately has proven (to me at least) to be better quality, Intel beats AMD (due to heat and the like), thheres more ram... and ASUS is a great brand...

i'd say on your budget this would be a great laptop, however sheck out the Sony (also great) same processor, same ram (i think) bluray, half decent vid card.. etc.. it has a 16.4 " screen and is cheaper

So go right ahead.. although i learned my mistake... GET A WARRANTY... it actually helps!

for 15" laptops you should be able to get one with a 9600GT for roughly the same price. 9600GT is a step up from the 9600GS which is a step up from the 9500GS, which is equivalent to the 8600GT, which performs similarly to the HD3650. Overall you're looking at a ~1500+ difference in 3dmark06 score. (from 8600GT to 9600GT).

Look for one with GDDR3 as well, as those perform much better than their equivalent GDDR2 versions.

the 8600GT has been known to have some heat issues (not sure how serious though), so you may want to look into that as well.

This will play TF2 ok. Runs COD4, the new Simbin GTR Evo, Lost Planet, with medium setting.

Really, with 14in, who wants to play games with high res?

I don't trust nvidia mobile GPUs just yet personaly, after all the returns they tried to cover up. ATI GPUs have no such problems.
