I HAVE A PROBLEM AND I DON'T KNOW IF...
Subject:

I have a problem and I don't know if it's because of my GPU.

Hello everyone, first off, this is my first post here and I'm fairly new to the forums, so I apologize in advance if this post appears in the wrong section or is lacking information, I'll try to explain everything as best as I can.

I've started upgrading my pc recently, got a new i7-6700k and 16 gigs of ddr4 ram, but until I get a new graphics card, I'm stuck with an AMD Radeon HD 7700 Series.

My problem is, as soon as I got my processor and the memory, I installed both and tested the performance on various games, and the experience and performance were nearly the same I had on my old processor and memory, which was an i3-3370k and 4 gigs of ddr3 ram.

In games like world of warcraft (which people say is "cpu dependent") I turned the graphics up, and to make it short, it' feels like I'm still using my old processor and memory. Only difference is that I could turn the view distance up to 10 (which is as high as it gets) without having any lag.

I don't understand if the processor just isn't working, or if the gpu is extraordinarily weak, and just not able to keep up. I do know what a bottleneck is, but even so, I thought that I'd get at least a bit of a better performance from the cpu. It's almost like I never got the processor, nor the memory in the first place.

Is the gpu that much of a problem in this case? I'd really like to know.

I hope I made this as clear as possible, and I'd really appreciate any kind of help with this.

Thanks in advance!

An i3-3370K doesn't exist, did you mean i7-3770K?

CPU's have hardly seen and changes in recent years, and a 3770K to a 6700K would likely show very little FPS improvement in games. Your GPU is indeed the problem as far as poor gaming performance goes.

Ugh sorry, tried to find a way to edit this but couldn't.

It was an i3 4130, 3.4 ghz, I mixed it up with an i7, sorry.

Well the upgrade form a dual core to quad core is going to help, in some games more than others. But the 7700 series card is going to really be holding you back still :(

So the gpu is so bad to the point where it doesn't matter what processor I have, I won't see an increase in performance?

Also I don't know if I should ask here but, is a gtx 1070 a good option with my current processor?

Basically yes.

A 1070 would be an amazing upgrade, even a GTX 1060 if your budget is more comfortable with it's price.

If you play WoW and not having the game on SSD, you also affect how the game performs.
Helping load and rendering will reduce FPS stuttering and increase your min FPS. Which also can turn up your settings for better quality details.
