CHARGING WEEKS BEFORE SHIPPING...

Charging weeks before shipping

I love NCIX but this practice of them charging you for a product they don't have in stock has got to stop. It sometimes takes weeks before they ship the item if they have a stock shortage. We should only be charged at time of shipping in the chance we decide to go with a different "in stock" product or else find it elsewhere.

In my case I'd like to be able to sell my current video card to help pay off the new one but I can't very well do that if I don't have the new card, even though I was charged for it over a week ago (with no expected ETA for at least another week).

I hope NCIX changes its charging practices to only charge when they have something to ship.

Is it any different anywhere else? Can you provide a single example?

I doubt you'll see this change anytime soon.

We pride ourselves on offering many different payment methods. Credit Card, Masterpass, Visa Checkout, Paypal, Interac Online, Electronic Bill Payment... All but one of these methods MUST be charged at the time your order is placed.

Our system is very streamlined to increase efficiency in the warehouse. All payment methods are processed before orders are sent to the warehouse, and this means any payment issues are resolved before they hit the conveyor belt. If you wanted to wait until the order hits the conveyor belt before it's charged, you put the shipping department in charge of handling situations where payments are denied, halting the line and decreasing their efficiency.

it is industry standard to charge for an item even if it is not currently in stock

i don't know off hand of any vendors that don't charge until such vendor has sufficient stock to cover the order

edit: it could be worse: I ordered (and submitted payment for an item to be shipped directly from China; the item arrived over 4 months later)

IIRC, Friendly works for a big box competitor to NCIX. It was the BEST of times, it was the worst of times

What? No they don't. Amazon's posted policy is to charge you when it ships. I don't know what unusual scenario you were in but this has always been the case for me.

ok ... so Apple and Amazon (both billion dollar companies), don't charge for an item unless it is in stock
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

(then there is also Feindly's Big Box store that he works at that has the same practice)

i would still say that it is the exception, rather the rule, to not charge unless an item is in stock
especially in the tech realm

the reason being is that the resellers don't want to have a ton of stock sitting around
stock costs $$$
extra stock that is not moving can hit a company's bottom line

edit: so say a buyer wants an item that is not in stock and the reseller puts down the $$$ to order that item, and then the buyer backs out. the seller then is stuck with this item, waiting for a buyer

i'm sure greg can testify for the amount of near obsolete/or obsolete tech that goes unsold (sitting in some warehouse)

Yeah Amazon doesn't charge you until they ship your item. It only makes sense.

Got charged for my order for an MSI 1080 TI Gaming X after nearly a week - no ETA on when to expect it to actually ship/arrive - for an expense this large you'd expect a bit more information on expected delivery. If you're going to charge ahead of time that is the least you can do.
