Hey all,

Anyone with especially the gtx570 and dual displays may be interested in what i just figured out.

A fix for that bug that keeps the clocks cranked up when you have 2 displays.

Get GPU-Z going, Sensor tab, you should see your clocks.

Goto Control Panel ---- System ----- Advanced System Settings ---- Performance ------ Settings --- Choose adjust for best Appearance ---- then choose Custom(all options will be checked) ------- now Uncheck the first option: Animate controls and elements while in windows ----- watch your gpu-z and see if after 10 seconds it downclocks to 50hz Core, and 68 memory.

Took me more than a year to figure that out.

Now you can leave your PC on with 2 displays and get real power savings.

Let me know if it works on the 6 series.

THANK YOU!!!! :D

I can finally use both screens even during the summer now that my GPU isn't shooting 65 degree air in the room all the timeBut what exactly does it do when you disable this option?

deathwisher are you saying that this worked for your 560Ti also? Awesome news if it did.

I only know for a fact about the gtx570s, will be great if it works for other series and models. Shame on nV though.........

no change here on a gtx680 triple display setup

edit: but system does clock down on 2 displays

edit2: good to know; I might just get a USB display driver for the third monitor and have the 680 only run 2 monitors
it would probably fix their bug (primary monitor in BIOS is different than the primary monitor for windows)

just bought a HIS DVI USB adapter - and now I have the primary monitor in BIOS the same primary monitor in Windows AND my temps are extremely low

GTX680
GPU core 324MHz
GPU mem 162MHz

edit: this is with the 680 driving 2 monitors and the HIS DVI USB device driving the third monitor

I've never had this issue because years ago I learned to uncheck all that crap under performance options since animations make your entire user interface a slower experience to work with.

It clocks down the system when you're not actually doing any 3d intensive work as opposed to leaving the card in high performance mode.

increased visual effects causes increased gpu load - the gpu cycles in steps and it jumps up quite a bunch for the visual eye candy
gpu load is also caused by 3 monitors, whereas 2 monitors the gpu can still operate at a lower level

right now my gpu is idling at 31'C; whereas it idled at 44'C (gigabyte windforce)

Yeah you can turn aero completely off, but with this you can have whatever you want except for the top option. Most people run Win7 with aero features or it looks worse than xp.

This works with gtx 480 also?! Thats insane. So there are people that have had their 480s running full blast for 3 years or more. 3 generations of cards and nV still havnt figured it out.

The silly part is that the top option doesnt seem to do much at all either. But it single handedly forces nV cards to run at 800mhz instead of 50mhz. Which is a tonne of Amps and heat. Crazy.
