Anyone have any idea what was wrong with these E4200 router? Are they return from previous owner?

Are these version 1 or 2?

It says it's re certified.
From my understanding it means that something was probably wrong, whether the hardware or whatnot didn't meet the specified standards. Linksys has diagnosed and repaired this product to a functioning state, although it may have been just working but something minor was wrong, and just had to be tweaked a little.

From a hardware standpoint, there are two things wrong with this device.
1. Inadequate cooling
2. no replacable antennas so that better ones can be used.

2 leads to 1, because the Tx power needs to be really high for this to be usable in a multistory home, which causes the wifi chip to get extremely hot. And that extra heat leads to instability and a returned item.

So use a USB fan on it.

You should not need to buy a fan to keep the E4200v2 cool.
I've used the E4200v2 for 10 days and my kids are about to mutiny...
My kids constantly complain about unexplained disconnects while they're playing Xbox Live (Halo4 and Black Ops).

I like Linksys products, I've been using a WRT160N for 3-4 years with ABSOLUTELY no problems, so I figured I would TRUST the same line of routers. Unfortunately, the E4200v2 is a disappointment because of constant loss of connectivity.

I never had problems with my WRT160N, the E4200v2 has occupied my last 10 days, the kids insisted I put back the old WRT160N.
