This board does not ship with a bios ready for ivy cpus... and not only that, if you install a "K" series CPU like my 3770K It does not allow overclocking. Multiplier is locked at a max 35x non-turbo.
Also, only the mini-display port allows for gaming processing and directx output. If you use either of the HDMI ports, as soon as you launch any 3d game or even run the windows experience index it hard locks up and you must hold your power button 5 seconds to reboot. (reset does not work either)

Please people learn from my nightmare... i should have just bought a quality brand name in the first place. And definitely not a Z68 :(
Just O.K. board for sandy bridge... absolutely TERRIBLE for Ivy.

Wow, that's kind of shady. I thought all Z68/77 boards allowed you to change the multiplier. With the HDMI issues you have as well, maybe you just got a broken board. Time for an RMA possibly.

Yeah I wouldn't buy a motherboard by Zotac anyway. There are so many things they need to think of when designing those things, Zotac being inexperienced they probably forgot a lot of stuff.

Why would you put such a nice CPU (3770K) in here to overclock anyways? You couldn't expect to get 4.5ghz+ with it did you? (Can they handle good overclocks? Guess not...)

Ivy Bridge runs hot too - wouldn't a small case have trouble with the heat anyways? Especially if you are overclocking an Ivy?

Thanks for the advice though! It's useful to others!

These kinds of statements make me cringe...

why does IB run hotter?

Lower TDP -> less heat generated -> lower case temps
Crappy TIM/heatspreader -> inability to dissipate heat -> higher CPU temps

What does this mean?
- OCing is more difficult cause the CPU can't shed heat as easily
- The case will be cooler with an equal amount of airflow

If you're going ITX with a 3770k, just fork out the money for the P8Z77-I Deluxe.

Better reason: It's a ZOTAC

I bought this board as most of the reviews for it stated it handled the 2700k at 4.5ghz no problem. I am running an antec kuhler 620 on the cpu and got the 3770k super cheap so I Figured why not. Even 4ghz stable would keep me happy. unfortunately this board was a complete disappointment.
Looks like I'm selling this off to go to the asus deluxe model itx board...
You think i would have learned when my zotac gtx 680 wont run more than 5% over stock clocks. zotac is far from an enthusiast brand...

I notice on the Zotac website there are a couple BIOS updates, if you still have it installed maybe you could give that a shot?

Sucks it didn't work out. I had recently picked up a Z68A-UD4 gigabyte mobo from the warehouse sale. Excited I overclocked my 2500k, all was good. Then I got a deal on a 3770K only to be disapointed. The multi was locked. Then I found out I had to install the beta EFI BIOS(or whatever it was called) to get it to at least overclock to 4.3Ghz. I guess I had to find out the hardware about Z68 chipset and newer cpu's

Tried this too. The latest beta bios is built on the last bios that has no support for ivy. and the bios that does support ivy doesn't support overclocking.
Sorry to revive the thread but I figure its info that people should know.
